Pull cord extractor fan wiring. Hi diyer here also 1st post gulp 8 i ve lived in my house for 30 years we have always had a 100mm pull cord type extractor fan in the bathroom. I need to replace a pull cord switch for a shower extractor fan but would appreciate advice regarding wiring as the old and new switches are different types. This is because when you switch the fan off at the pull cord there is still a permanent live wire connected to the fan for the timer. Im attaching a picture of each.
Because it s the last point of the circuit i decided to wire all at the switch that s why i h. The time lag switch will allow the fan to be manually started but then. I am having problems connecting it to the pull cord sitch. Pull the cord and check that the extractor fan comes on and is blowing in the right direction.
To make sure it all works i have connected a plug to the the end of the wiring and all works. This wiring plan will simply run the fan when the room light is on. The existing switch has common l1 and l2 with the lives currently going together into com and both neutr. In this video i m installing and wiring a pull cord switch.

Its works by a humidistat a timer a pull cord switch on the fan when pulled comes on for the duration of the timer and a on off pull switch by the door. Now you need to turn the power back on and try the extractor fan out.
Options include a manual pull switch and a vacuum time lag switch. Extractor fans with an integral timer or timed switch need a 3 core and earth supply to allow the unit to run on after a light is switched off. This must be more than just switching off the mcb in the fuse box. It can also be adapted for separate switching if required.
Wiring an extractor fan is not a task that most people will feel comfortable doing themselves. Hi this video is about wiring a bathroom extractor fan wiring fan to the three pole fan switch isolator and pull cord switch. Unlike other fan installations it does not need a permanent live connection. If you have a timer on your fan you need to have isolation for maintenance.
However it is something that most people are capable of doing. Look at the wiring for a bathroom fan on the internet.
